Reviewing Our Impact on Air, Land, and Waterways
As part of our certification process, we’ve conducted an extensive review of how our operations impact the environment, including air quality, land use, and waterway protection. We carefully analysed the risks and potential impacts of our cleaning practices, implementing a range of controls to reduce and minimise these effects.
Moving Away from Harsh Chemicals
Historically, commercial cleaning has relied heavily on chemical cleaners that often contribute to the pollution of waste and stormwater systems, ultimately finding their way into our rivers and bodies of water. These chemicals can be harmful to both the environment and public health. To combat this, Jani-King has transitioned away from harsh chemical cleaners, adopting probiotic-based cleaning solutions, reducing the presence of harmful chemicals in wastewater runoff. This proactive step minimises the negative impact on stormwater systems, safeguarding rivers, streams, and the precious natural resources that support New Zealand’s unique ecosystems.
In the last 15 months alone, we have substituted approximately 27,260 litres of harsh chemical products with eco-friendly, probiotic-based cleaning solutions. This change means our clients can trust that their spaces are not only being cleaned to the highest standards but are also contributing to the protection of the environment.
A Commitment to Continuous Improvement
Our journey with the Toitū Enviromark program began in 2022 when we proudly achieved the Gold certification. Since then, we have worked diligently to enhance our sustainability initiatives, earning the prestigious Diamond certification in 2023. Since then, we have maintained this certification, continuously striving to lead the industry in environmentally responsible cleaning solutions.
